Children's Dentist in Columbia, IL!
At Workman Family Dental, we love working with kids because we believe that every child deserves a bright, healthy smile.
At this stage, your child’s life is filled with learning new things and having new adventures. Our goal is to take advantage of this time to show them that dental care can be easy and fun.
Gentle, Compassionate Care
Dr. Steven Workman has been providing gentle dentistry to kids for nearly 10 years. He has a gift of knowing how to communicate with kids on their level so they feel safe, secure, and comfortable.
We know that children can have a hard time understanding what's happening, which can make them fearful. Before we even talk about dental treatment, we take steps to help your child feel secure and comfortable. We will never approach a child with treatment until we're certain that they're ready.
Dr. Workman helps children understand what’s happening by using a teaching technique called “Tell, Show, Do.” This encourages kids to be an active part of the process so that by the time we “Do,” they will be comfortable and even curious to see what happens.
When your child is ready, we will start first with gentle cleanings, then gradually move on to more comprehensive treatment. You are always welcome to stay in the treatment room with your child to provide any additional support and security needed.
Comprehensive Care for Your Child
Baby teeth may not seem very important, but they actually serve an essential role in your child’s dental development. They act as a placeholder for permanent teeth that are already developing in the jaw.
When a baby tooth is lost too soon, it affects the way the permanent teeth emerge, which can potentially lead to orthodontic problems in the future.
At Workman Family Dental, we believe that, with proper care, no child ever needs to experience dental problems. When kids are very young, we have the opportunity to provide them with all the preventive treatments they need to enjoy a lifetime of healthy smiles.
Exams and cleanings – Regular exams allow us to monitor changes and correct problems when they're still small and easy to treat. Professional dental cleanings supplement your child's at-home oral hygiene to ensure that their teeth are clean and healthy.
Fillings – With proper at-home oral hygiene and regular visits to our Columbia, IL dental office, we can prevent cavities from becoming a problem. If necessary, we will fill your child's tooth to provide strength and protect it from further decay.
Fluoride – Public water in Columbia is fluoridated to promote strong and healthy teeth. However, there may be a case where your child isn’t receiving enough fluoride. If necessary, we will provide fluoride varnish treatments to ensure that your child’s teeth stay healthy.
Sealants – The chewing surfaces of molars and pre-molars have grooves in them known as fissures. Dental sealants are a wonderful treatment because they prevent decay by “sealing out" bacteria in these cavity-prone areas of your child’s teeth.
Your Child Deserves the Best
Too many adults today have had negative dental experiences in childhood, making it difficult for them to seek needed treatment. We know that there’s no reason for dental fear to exist. Giving your child the opportunity to gradually learn and understand the benefits of good oral health will help them enjoy a lifetime of healthy smiles.
